UPDATE 27 MARCH 2011: REGISTRATION FOR INTERPAL'S "20 MILE WALK" IS NOW CLOSED.

Interpal, together with a host of partner charities, is organising a 20 mile (32 km) walk for World Water Day 2011 on  Saturday 19 (for women) and Saturday 26 (for men) March 2011. The walks, which cut right across the capital, start at 9.30am and go from Green Street Station in East London to Southall Broadway in West London.

Interpal is calling on all its supporters and their families and friends to join this walk to help raise awareness and urgently-needed funds for our Clean Water Project.

The walk marks a global campaign by the End Water Poverty alliance and lasts from 19-22 March 2011. It aims to raise awareness of the world’s current water and sanitation crisis, and ‑ critically ‑ demand strong government action to stop the needless deaths of 4,000 children every day due to a lack of clean water.

The End Water Poverty alliance and their supporters stand in solidarity with the women and children forced to walk long distances and for hours just to find water before carrying it back to their homes. The weight of the water may sometimes be as much as 18kg and the distances walked are on average around 6km.

Nearly 93% of the available water in the Gaza Strip does not meet World Health Organisation (WHO) standards. Moreover, nearly 1 in 3 people across the world live without adequate sanitation.

Interpal’s Clean Water Campaign purifies and delivers fresh drinking water to families in Gaza. By walking with Interpal you could help raise vital funds; just £40 will provide a family with a 250 litre water tank and £10 a month to ensure that that tank is filled with safe clean water.

“This is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the current water and sanitation crisis across the world. We at Interpal are very proud to be part of this global campaign and hope you can join us on this and make a real difference,” says Dr. Essam Mustafa, Interpal’s Managing Trustee.

By clicking the link to register (below), you will be taken to our donations page. Please register your support for just £5 for the ’20 mile walk registration fee’. Interpal asks that you aim to raise a minimum of £100. Once you are signed up, we will send you an application pack with all the information you may need.
