Medical Aid

Boy in PalestineThe border closures, curfews, checkpoints, separation wall and other harsh restrictions on movement imposed by the occupying forces, have meant that smaller local medical units are more viable than a large centralised hospital in getting emergency medical aid to the injured. With this in mind, Interpal sees its role as assisting local medical centres and clinics, and helping enhance or improve the health and medical infrastructure that is already in place in its areas of operation.

Interpal has been at the forefront of new initiatives which seek to provide bicycle ambulances, stretchers that can be carried in taxis, and the establishment of emergency medical centres in advance of military incursions. By donating specialised medical equipment and much needed medical supplies, Interpal and its partners have helped local medical centers cope with the increased cases of trauma, gunshot wounds and childbirth complications.

Many children and families have suffered from extreme psychological trauma as a result of the conflict. Interpal and its partners have supported projects to support those affected by financing qualified medical personnel to run these programmes. Interpal has supported a number of hospitals, clinics, medical profession training schemes and rehabilitation centres, including the following:
