Letter from the Chairman
Assalamu Alaikum; peace be upon you.
We pray that this finds you and your family in the best of health and iman, insha'Allah.
As the blessed month of Ramadan draws to an end, we take this opportunity to thank you for your kind support and overwhelming generosity. In just three weeks we raised a phenomenal amount for Palestinians in need, alhamdulillah.
As you join your families and loved ones in joyous celebration this Eid, here at Interpal we wish to extend our warmest blessing to you, our donors, who enable us to continue our life-saving work and on-going efforts to lift Palestinians out of poverty; whilst bringing hope into the lives of thousands in the places that we work.
Eid Muburak!
Yours in Islam,
Ibrahim Hewitt Chairman of the Board of Trustees

Israel has further escalated tensions with the Gaza Strip and continued the sequence of violence by launching further rocket attacks against the beleaguered sector, despite agreeing to a recent ceasefire with resistance factions.
Yesterday, targets in the north of the Gaza Strip, including the Beit Lahiya sports club and a children's kindergarten, came under heavy missile attack from Israeli war planes. The assault left a number of adjacent civilian houses either partially or completely destroyed.
Eleven people are now known to have been killed and more than 30 injured in this latest attacks.

Israeli aircraft have launched intense night raids against civilian areas inside the Gaza Strip.
During the attacks, the Abu Samra household was targeted and completely destroyed. A thirteen year old child is reported to have been killed while several other members of the family were injured.
Also targeted was a building under construction in the Kutayba district in the centre of Gaza City which caused the windows of surrounding buildings to shatter. The doors and windows of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque were also blown in and its contents damaged.
Earlier on, the Israeli Occupation carried out a raid on a Palestinian house it claimed harboured a Palestinian militant responsible for 6 deaths including that of a child.
The cycle of violence continues and it is not yet known when the current escalation will come to an end.

Would you like to donate money to charity, without giving a penny?

We have stumbled upon what has to be the laziest way to donate money to charity - and what’s more it’s free!
A long-term supporter of the charity has come forward and offered to match every “Like” of the new Interpal Ramadan 2011 Facebook page with £1. But there is a deadline – the end of Ramadan!
Yes it’s true!
This means that by simply hitting “Like”, you are automatically giving £1 to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Lebanon and Jordan.
The Vice Chairman of Interpal explains,
“We were surprised by the generosity of this donor, but are really grateful. Interpal strives to raise awareness about the Palestinian cause - the largest refugee crisis in the world - and Facebook is a great tool for this. Also, of course, we are hoping lots of people “Like” the new page so that we can raise funds for our work.”
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, states that having supported Interpal for many years, he now wants to do something more:
“I’d like to inspire others to support Interpal and the Palestinian cause. This charity is doing literally life-saving work. I’d like more people to know about it.”
So what a great way to raise awareness about the struggle of many Palestinians, encourage people to get involved and raise money!
For every person who “Likes” the Interpal Ramadan 2011 Facebook page by September 1st 2011, £1 will go directly to Palestinians. We are aiming for 200,000 supporters by September.

UNRWA regrets to announce that it has been forced to suspend services in Jenin city and Jenin camp as of today, 12 August 2011, until further notice. The forced suspension includes relief and social services, job creation programme and camp services offices.
This regrettable move comes in response to recent and ongoing threats to the personal safety, security and well-being of UNRWA employees in that area. UNRWA’s main objective is to serve the refugee population with high-quality services. This objective cannot be achieved in an atmosphere of violence and intimidation and where our staff and premises are not safe.
UNRWA remains committed to fulfilling its mandated responsibilities, working with all interested parties, officials and civil society to resolve this issue in a timely fashion and in a way that best serves the interests of the refugee population. We call on the relevant Palestinian authorities to ensure the safety and security of all UNRWA personnel and installations so that we can resume our full services at the earliest possible time.
