UNRWA’s Barrier Monitoring Unit PDF Print E-mail

Interpal recently attended a briefing given by Mr. Z. Ali Dalal of UNRWA’s Barrier Monitoring Unit (BMU). The meeting was hosted by the Welfare Association.

The BMU is mandated to document the impact of the West Bank “Barrier” (known to most people as the Wall) built by Israel that is projected to be 709km long, of which 420km has already been built. The BMU is the first project of its kind to institutionalise Barrier monitoring and is unique in its combination of the humanitarian and sustainable development approaches. Moving forwards, the BMU is also developing a comprehensive advocacy strategy.

UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories condemns Khirbet Tana demolition PDF Print E-mail

The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories, Mr. Maxwell Gaylard, has condemned the demolition of temporary tented structures sheltering families from the weather in Khirbet Tana. This is the second time that such demolition has taken place in the community of approximately 250 people located in Israeli controlled “Area C” in the north of the West Bank, close to the city of Nablus. Mr. Gaylard explained that “…residents, who have been in the area for decades, live in basic shelters (including tents and caves) and rely on herding and agriculture for their livelihoods. Demolitions of basic shelter and livelihood structures place serious strains on the coping mechanisms of communities affected, who have few other options to sustain their livelihoods.”

Interpal sponsors the event for disabled persons in the Gaza Strip PDF Print E-mail

Interpal has sponsored the biggest annual event for disabled persons in the Gaza Strip. The 6th Annual Creative Forum for the Disabled was implemented in cooperation with the University College of Applied Sciences, Gaza. It included workshops, open days, medical open days when free services were provided and exhibitions of works created and produced by disabled persons. Hundreds of participants and more than 40 organisations working with the disabled took part.
