Ramadan Campaign
Ramadan, the month of daily fasting from dawn to dusk, is traditionally the busiest time in Interpal’s fundraising calendar. For Muslims, one of the benefits of this month is that they get to experience first-hand the pain of hunger and deprivation endured by the poor and needy on a daily basis, and therefore to remember that it is the duty of those who are blessed with more than they need to help provide sustenance for the less fortunate.
It is during this time that Muslims usually pay the Zakat (poor due), which is 2.5% of what may be termed their surplus wealth for the year. Interpal’s Ramadan campaign lasts for about three months, and yields around 60% of its total income. Interpal distributes an annual average of 36% to programmes run during the Ramadan campaign, and these include:
In line with Interpal’s policy of providing multi-dimensional aid, the Ramadan Campaign also implements a programme to provide direct benefit to Palestinian farmers, producers, manufacturers and merchants who have seen their businesses and enterprise all but destroyed since the intifada began.

Qurbani / ‘Eidul-Adha Project
Due to the high cost of livestock, meat can be very difficult to afford by the poor and needy. Interpal’s Qurbani Project aims to help Muslims perform the highly recommended religious act of Qurbani or Udhiyah (a sacrifice offered at the time of Eid ul-Adha to show gratitude to Allah and to provide for the poor and needy), to help local farmers and producers, and to give poor and needy Palestinians a sense of occasion by enabling them to enjoy meat at least once a year. To ensure meat distribution is staggered to benefit as many people as possible, Interpal implements this project on 3 levels:
Interpal’s Qurbani Project also distributes ‘Eid gifts, food Parcels and financial assistance in order to provide an effective response to the growing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, and to ensure that vital aid as well as Qurbani meat reaches Palestinians in their hour of need.
