Distribution_GirlsOver 50% of the population in Palestine is under the age of 18, and therefore Palestine’s future will be determined by the strength and intellect of its children.  However Palestinians are undergoing a continuous struggle under occupation, living in overcrowded camps, violence and deprivation with nearly two thirds of Palestinians in Jerusalem and Gaza living below the poverty line.  The last hope for the children of Palestine to get out of the cycle of chronic poverty is education.

What’s the issue?

Education is the most powerful weapon needed to change the world (Nelson Mandela); however the Palestinians are denied this essential ingredient required for human development, society and economy.   In addition to this basic resources for children such as pens, pencils and books that are necessary for schooling are not affordable to the vast majority of Palestinian children.

Why Palestine needs your HELP:

ACCESS TO EDUCATION has been DENIED, as students are limited in where they can travel to pursue education.

Room to teach has been DENIED, as blockade restrictions have made it difficult to invest in building new schools or repair damaged schools resulting in OVERCROWDING.

QUANTITY and QUALITY OF TEACHERS have been DENIED, as military actions have resulted in many teachers being killed, injured or left with deep psychological trauma.

ACHIEVEMENT has been DENIED, as school attendance and performance have declined because of regular military disruptions, damaged and ageing education infrastructure and overcrowding.

BRAIN FOOD has been DENIED as majority of Palestinians are too poor to buy meat or unable to obtain essential vitamins for brain development due to the blockade resulting in around one-fifth of school children being iodine deficient and undernourished.DSC_0160_SchKitCropped

What is Interpal doing to HELP?

Interpal recognises the importance of supporting education programmes in order to empower the youth of Palestine and as a means of providing them with a brighter future.  For many improvised Palestinians, especially those from the refugee population, education is seen as a passport out of poverty and deprivation.  Over the past fifteen years Interpal has:

  • Provided assistance to schools and universities
  • Funded special education programmes including summer camps for children.
  • Supported needy students through the provision of school kits and has helped with education expenses.
  • Provided financial assistance to university students in Palestine and in the refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan.
